The N.Z.F.D.T Inc. is a foundation member of the New Zealand Dance & Dancesport Council & has organised the New Zealand Professional & Amateur Ballroom & Latin/American Championships since 1956, which were founded earlier by Mr Jimmy James.

Through membership of the New Zealand Council, we are full members of the World Dance & Dancesport Council.

The N.Z.F.D.T.INC. was formed by Mr Len Marsden in 1956 as an outcome of the demise of the National Association of Teachers of Dancing and is now the largest Ballroom, Latin & American and New Vogue Dancing organisation in New Zealand.


Our syllabus covers the following styles for professional qualifications and amateur medal tests for all ages - children through to senior adults:

  • Modern Ballroom (Standard)
  • Latin & American
  • New Vogue (Sequence)
  • English Old Time (Also known as Classical Sequence)

Further styles included for amateur medal tests are:

  • Social Dance
  • Rock & Roll
  • Freestyle (Salsa, Street Latin, Disco, Etc)
